How come PowerSupplements does not sell any Andro products?

We only carry products that work and are safe. Regardless of what Mark McGuire might say - we have not seen the studies to show that Andro is safe and effective. To be honest we have heard from customers that they use Andro and have seen positive gains - but this is not scientific evidence. In addition, if Andro does help build muscle mass it has still only met one of requirements - being effective as a muscle builder. The second issue - is it safe - still has not been answers.

We are starting to see some encouraging information on some 19Nor, 4-Androstene3 and 17dione products. However, until we are sure these new products are safe and effective we will not carry them on our web site.

Have there been any studies on Andro?

Until recently there was not enough scientific evidence to say if Andro worked and was safe. In June of 1999 the first major study came out and it was not good. The study was done by Dr. Douglas S. King of Iowa State University, and here is what they found:

* No increase in muscle mass

* Increase in the risk of heart disease

* Increase in the risk of pancreatic cancer

* Increase in unwanted breast enlargement.

The ironic thing about the study is that EAS sponsored the study to try to show how effective their Andro products are!

Now, this is only one study - and I do not think it means the end of the world if you have been taking Andro, but it's just one more reason why we have decided not to carry any andro products. Since the study came out everyone has found fault with it and called for new studies. We do fell the study could have been more comprehensive and think it would be great if this spark some new studies. The more studies we have the better informed we will all be.

If you would like to read a good article about the study check out the New York Times, 6/2/99, pg A22. If you can't get the hard copy check it out on their web site - www.nytimes.com

If I have been taking Andro - should I be worried?

That depends on how long you have been taking it and how much you have been taking. Often the problems associated with any supplement and/or drug happens only after prolonged use. If you want to continue to take Andro that is you choice. We just recommend you do as much research as possible to make sure you are not hurting your body. All I can say is I would not take it until more research is done. It is quite possible another study will come out that finds that Andro is not dangerous. But as for right now it has two strikes against it. First, it was shown not to be effective in building muscle mass. Second it has been shown to have dangerous side effects. As bad as steroids are - you can see why people used them - because they did build muscle mass. Our feeling is if Andro is not building muscle mass, why even take the risk.

Do all types of Andro carry the same risks?

No - that is the problem. A study may say that one type of Andro is dangerous. Manufactures will then say that the 19Nor or the 17dione product they sell was not studied and is safe. It is very hard to evaluate all these claims. It may well be that some Andro products are not as dangerous as others. We have had some positive feedback on a Andro-Pro product from Mega Pro. As we find out more we will update the web site.

What if I still want to try an Andro product?

If you are over 18 you have every right to make your own decisions on what to put into your body. We just try to provide information - but it is your right to use whatever products are legally available on the market. If you decide you would like to try Andro we can special order it for you from one of our vendors.
