If you have spent anytime online you have no doubt noticed that are about 100 different Acai berry supplements on the market. In addition, every company claims to have the best Acai berry supplement in the world. So, how do you know which Acai berry supplements are the real deal and which ones you should avoid like the plague? You look very carefully at the label, for 9 words that you NEVER want to see on your Acai label.
9 Words You Never Want to See on a Acai Berry Supplement:
- 4:1 Acai Extract
- Spray Dried Acai
- Malodextrin
- Proprietary Blend
- Seeds
- Magnesium Stearate
- Rice
- Silica
- Anything that is Not Acai
The amazing thing about the Acai Berry is its full nutritional profile. The Acai berry is filled with antioxidants, healthy Omega fats, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber. A 4:1 Acai extract will have little nutritional value when compared to a freeze dried whole fruti Acai berry supplements. Read our article on Acai Berry Supplements to learn much more about the problems with 4:1 Acai Extracts.
Here is Supplement Secret Exposed… Spray Dried Acai is incredibly inexpensive. Want to know another
secret? Spray Dried Acai also has very little nutritional value. Spray Dried Acai is filled with Malodextrin (the drying agent) so when you buy spray dried Acai you are really getting a blend of Acai and Malodextrin.
Due to some weird FDA loop holes in the way ingredients need to be listed on labels, you will almost never see Malodextrin listed on an Acai label. Any Acai that is spray dried will have a drying agent in it, usually Malodextrin. Basically, if the label says 4:1 Acai extract it is most likely spray dried with a drying agent like Malodextrin.
Proprietary blends really have no place in the supplement industry if you ask us. If you are going to ingest something, don’t you have a right to know exactly what is in the supplement? Many Acai companies will create things like “Acai Rainforest Blend – 500mg”. You have no idea how much Acai is actually in the proprietary blend.
The Acai berry is 90% inedible seed and 10% edible skin and pulp. As no one in the Amazon ever eats the Acai seed – why should you? When you have an orange – do you eat the peel? There are simply some parts of a fruit you just should not eat!
If you look closely at the “Other Ingredients” you may see Magnesium Stearate listed. What is this? It is what the industry calls “filler and flowing agents”. Fillers and Flowing agents help supplement manufacturers reduce their product costs, but they offer no benefits for consumers. Why take something that has absolutely no positive health benefits?
Another filler – see the explanation in #6.

I know this sounds like something Yogi Berra would say – but if you want Acai, don’t take something that is not Acai! Look for an Acai Berry supplement that lists exactly one ingredient – Acai!

Thank you for this article. I have been duped and have cancelled my order.
Great article – It is such a shame that some \’dodgey\’ products get in the way of the good ones
