Got an Acai Berry supplement and want to increase your market share – Green Wash it!
Got a Noni supplements and need some extra marketing buzz – Green Wash it!
So what is Green Washing?
Green Washing is when a company decides that they want to have their supplement look socially responsible and environmentally friendly, but without actually doing much to help the environment. For example, an Acai supplement that is not organic and not fairly traded would not help the environment or the people of the Amazon Rainforest. However, since green is in these days, a supplement company could make a small donation to an environmental agency and then claim their product was helping the environment – this would be green washing.
Recent studies show that more and more consumers do care about things like Organic certification and fair trade supplements. People want to see that the supplement they are taking is not destroying the rainforest or exploiting the local workers.
In the Acai berry industry there are some fantastic freeze dried Organic Acai supplements that are made with fair trade Acai and really help save the rainforest. However, there are also plenty of Acai Berry companies who just want to make a fast dollar and care very little about the environment. These companies do understand the marketing benefit to having a socially responsible company, so they are involved in some heavy duty Green Washing.
If you want to buy a supplement that is really socially responsible and helps the environment, do your research and watch out for the flood of Green Washing that you will see online.
