Are You Hypoglycemic (low blood sugar)

A surprising high percentage of Americans are hypoglycemic without realizing it. The following are symptoms of hypoglycemia. Pay particular attention if these symptoms occur 2-3 hour after eating:

  • Fatigue: Especially important if this only occurs a few hours after meals
  • Mood Swings:Also occurring a few hours after meals
  • Nervousness:Usually accompanied by irritability
  • Irritability:An intense, edgy feeling, similar to dehydration, accompanied by trembling
  • Trembling: particularly in the fingers and hands
  • Headache:Accompanied by one of the above symptoms
  • Hunger:This can be very significant if it occurs only a few hours after eating a meal and is accompanied by the above symptoms.
  • Confusion:An inability to focus your concentration
  • Cold sweats:If you ignore your hunger
  • Memory loss:Not so much forgetting things that you already remembered, but never transferring information into long term memory. For example: being unable to recall a conversation that you had a few days ago, or even that the conversation happened. This is most likely to occur if the conversation happened as you were experiencing the above symptoms.

Some other symptoms of hypoglycemia include:

  • Rapid heart rate

  • Blurry or double vision

  • Convulsions

  • Coma

  • Excessive sweating

  • Sleeping difficulty

  • Paleness

  • Muscle pain

  • Heartbeat sensations

  • Hallucinations

  • Fainting

  • Different size pupils

  • Dizziness

If these symptoms apply to you the first thing you should do is see a doctor (endocrinologist). You will probably also want to see a nutritionist since proper diet is the primary treatment for hypoglycemia. Symptoms can be eased almost immediately. One of the keys is to eat less food more often. It is advisable to eat 5-6 small meals instead of 3 large meals daily.

In addition to proper diet, taking a Chromium supplement can have a major impact on your blood sugar levels. Chromium Picolinate has been shown to help the insulin in your body process sugar more effectively. When combined with a well-balanced diet that avoids simple sugars, caffeine and alcohol, Chromium Picolinate helps reduce the symptoms presented above.
